THE FACTOTUM SUITE

The Factotum first premiered back in 2023. The road from there to this newly born Factotum Suite was filled with both triumphs and setbacks, all of it sharpening our composing skills along the way. The first challenge for this suite was picking the songs. We needed a set that would represent the piece honestly, and give the audience the kind of finale impact Sphinx was looking for.

We opened with "Legacy" a song about protecting what you inherit and making sure it doesn't crumble under your watch. We transitioned to a universal theme of love with a soprano take on an aria originally written for tenor, “Fantasy or Love”. We were grateful to share the stage with superstar Melody Betts who made the aria completely her own.

We closed with "The Baddest" a duet between Will and Melody, pulled from the original production and expanded for full orchestra. It's a lighthearted battle of the sexes, and it gave us the perfect ending. The song kicked off with a DJ scratch intro, and by the time Melody took over the final riff, the whole room was on its feet. This was my first time playing alongside a full orchestra, a moment I'll carry with me for a long time. Grateful for nights like these!
